Venenatis being fought in melee in her deep Wilderness lair with one of the revenant chainmaces

The three revenant weapons and their three boss upgrades are in the game and dropping from Callisto, Venenatis and Vet'ion. The classic Wilderness bosses also stopped fighting in silence, eight RuneLite plugins landed in the client, and the black textures on the default renderer are fixed.

Highlights

  • Six Wilderness weapons - Craw's bow, Viggora's chainmace and Thammaron's sceptre, plus their upgrades: the Webweaver bow, the Ursine chainmace and the Accursed sceptre. All six give 50 percent more accuracy and damage against any NPC in the Wilderness, and nothing at all against another player.
  • They never need ether - they drop already charged and spend nothing, so there is no activation cost, no recharging and no uncharged version to worry about.
  • The Wilderness bosses make a noise now - six of the eight bosses on the Wilderness teleport list swung, cast and died without a single sound effect, and the other two were missing the sound of their projectiles landing. All eight are wired up.
  • Black textures fixed - the GPU renderer was handing the driver more textures than it allows, which silently failed and made every textured surface sample black. Anyone on a stale client build is now asked to update.
  • Barrows gear stopped destroying itself - a piece lost on death turned into an unwearable husk for both the victim and the killer. It drops whole now, and the broken pieces sitting in your bank can be mended.

New content

  • The revenant weapons - Callisto drops Viggora's chainmace, Venenatis drops Craw's bow and Vet'ion drops Thammaron's sceptre, each at 1 in 250, with the upgraded version of the same weapon at 1 in 1000. Revenants past level 30 Wilderness also drop the base three at 1 in 6000.
  • Both bows conjure their own ammunition - Craw's bow and the Webweaver bow need nothing in the quiver, and firing one can no longer eat the bow itself.
  • A Help clan chat - every account is put into a server-run Help channel once, so there is somewhere to ask a question without knowing anyone first. Leaving it from the Clan Chat tab is permanent, and we will not put you back in.
  • RuneList voting - RuneList is the sixth vote site wired into the vote panel and it pays out properly now. Its cooldown is 12 hours rather than the usual 24.
  • The rest of the world caught up - yesterday's import filled in every map square we were missing; this one replaced the 1,611 we already had, so home, Edgeville, the Wilderness and the boss arenas are all modern Old School geometry rather than an older revision's.

Combat and balance

  • The Webweaver bow was punching people - it had no ranged weapon entry, so its ordinary attack fell through to melee and it was swung as a club. Both sceptres had the same problem and staff-bashed instead of casting. All three fight properly now.
  • Wilderness boss drop tables re-priced - adding two weapon slots to each table would have quietly made every ring, pet and clue on it rarer, so every other chance was rescaled to hold its rate. The Wilderness supply drops were already at the floor and could not be, so those went from 1 in 12 to 1 in 14.
  • Barrows armour no longer degrades - it used to jump straight to the unwearable "0" version on any drop or death, and nothing in the game could mend one. It is now ordinary tradeable armour that drops whole, and Perdu repairs the pieces already broken for 5,000 coins each.
  • Viggora's chainmace swings like a chainmace - it stood correctly but swung and blocked with the generic mace animations, which is what looked wrong. Both chainmaces now use their own.

Interface and quality of life

  • Eight RuneLite plugins - Status Bars, Key Remapping, Inventory Grid, Inventory Tags, Object Markers, Animation Smoothing, corner-style tile indicators and a trimmed Menu Entry Swapper. Object Markers and Animation Smoothing are on by default; the rest are waiting in the plugin panel for you to turn them on.
  • Wilderness boss sounds - Venenatis, the Chaos Elemental, the Chaos Fanatic, the Crazy archaeologist, the King Black Dragon and the Elder Chaos druid all got attack, block and death sounds. Callisto and Vet'ion already carried their own on their animations, so they only gained the sound of a projectile landing on you.
  • Discord nicknames and contributor roles - a linked account now wears its character name as its Discord nickname, and two hand-awarded badges plus a points ledger record who has actually helped test the server.

Client and performance

  • Textured surfaces are not black any more - the cache now carries 2,064 texture ids and the GPU renderer was asking the driver for all of them at once, past the 2,048 limit most drivers set. The request failed without saying so, so everything textured sampled black. Texture ids are packed down to what is actually used.
  • The floor stopped having holes in it - 352,660 tiles across the world drew as black voids in the 3D scene, including the Theatre of Blood chamber, the Inferno's lava, the tournament arena and one tile at home. The minimap and world map always drew them correctly, which is why it took a while to spot.
  • The loading bar stays in its window - after last week's fix to the download speed, the client repainted so rarely during a download that the bar was left floating over your desktop. It paints its own background and repairs the window itself now.
  • Old clients are turned away - a client downloaded as a bare jar never auto-updates, so the version gate is the only thing that can move it. Anything older than this build now gets the update screen instead of a black world.

Fixes

  • Accounts stuck online - a dropped connection could leave your character in the world with nothing reaping it, so you could not log back in. Dropped connections are now cleared out, the ten second anti-logout window only holds you while someone is attacking you, and one failing step during logout can no longer pin an account online or take the tick down with it.
  • A clan channel with a crowd in it - the member list sort was inconsistent and threw during login once a channel passed 32 members, which the Help channel will do on any busy evening.

Behind the scenes

  • A test that fails a silent boss - the reason seven Wilderness bosses were mute is that a hand-written combat script never plays the sound data, and no per-hit assertion can see that. A source scan now fails the build if one of those methods makes no sound at all.
  • Map patches address scenery absolutely - the hand-edited regions used to point at scenery by its position in the file, which stops meaning anything the moment the map underneath changes. They were rewritten to absolute coordinates, which is what made rebuilding them on the new map data safe.
