Pets

A hundred and fifty-nine followers, where each comes from, and the one rule that makes them worth chasing - you cannot lose one.

A hundred and fifty-nine pets. Eighty-seven of them are drops from something you can actually do - most off a boss's table, the rest rolling while you train a skill - and the other seventy-two are the dogs, which are bought rather than found. Two of the eighty-seven are earned rather than rolled: the Giant squirrel and the Tangleroot are paid by the 99-counting rows at the bottom of the task list, and the Tangleroot has no other source at all.

You cannot lose a pet

This is the whole reason to chase them. When a pet drops it goes somewhere it cannot be lost: out as a follower if you have none, then your inventory, then your bank, and if all of that is full it is held for you until you next log in. There is no insurance to buy and nothing to reclaim.

Deaths do not touch them, in the Wilderness or anywhere else.

Duplicates

You get one of each. Roll a pet you already own and the game tells you it would have followed you and nothing else happens - a pet is a trophy, not a stack.

That rule is not about drops. It is about holding two, so it counts a dog at your heel, one in your bag and one in your bank alike - and the Kennel below refuses a second copy on the same grounds.

The dogs

Seventy-two of them: twelve breeds, each in three coats, each with a puppy. They drop from nothing. The only place they come from is the Kennel at home - the dog house east of the chaos altar, also reachable from the list down the side of any shop - which sells one for 30,000,000 coins and buys it back for 15,000,000, and which rehomes each breed to a donator rank and above - Labradors and Spaniels from the bottom rung, Huskies at the top. That guide holds the whole ladder.

Coats are not a metamorphosis. The three Labradors are three separate pets that happen to share a name, so owning one does not stop you buying the other two.

Handling one

Right-click your follower for Talk-to, Pick-up and, on the ones that have a second form, Metamorphosis. Which option is on which click depends on the pet, because it is the pet's own data rather than a rule.

A pet in your bank takes a slot. Building a menagerie in your house at level 37 Construction is the answer to a large collection - the pets live there instead.

Raising the odds

Three things stack on a pet roll and they are the only three:

  • the Pet booster scroll, which raises every pet roll in the game by 10% for an hour of play (boxes and keys)
  • a [donator rank](/wiki/guide/donator-perks), which multiplies the roll at every rung
  • a world boss drop-rate boost while one is running (world bosses)

Every pet in the game rolls through the same seam, so a boost that says it applies to pets applies to all of them - boss and skilling alike.

Finding a particular one

Each boss page lists its pet with its rate alongside everything else it drops, and the Bestiary in game says the same numbers. ::drops is the fastest way to check one before you commit an evening to it.
