Skilling

Where every skill is trained, how fast it goes, the blood nodes that pay for gathering in the Wilderness, and the one skill that does not work.

A new Regular account arrives with its combat levels already at the top and everything else at 1. The skills are there to be trained if you want the capes, the achievements and the things they unlock - not as a wall in front of the bossing.

Every skill has its own page with the full level ladder: what each level unlocks, what it pays, and what it needs.

The rates are measured, not guessed

Experience comes in fast enough that a skill is an evening rather than a month. Two worked examples, both measured rather than estimated: Smithing to 99 is about an hour and a quarter at the anvils, and [Construction](/wiki/guide/construction) to 99 is about the same at one oak larder hotspot. Every other skill is priced against those.

That is deliberate. Nothing about a rune scimitar is interesting, so nothing about a rune scimitar is a grind here.

If you are on one of the earned account types the rate is different and the drop bonus pays you back for it - ranks and modes has that ladder.

Where the counters are

Two rows of skill masters on the west side of home sell every tool and raw material in the game. Open any one of them and the window lists every other counter, so you never have to remember who sells what.

| Skill | Counter | Command | |---|---|---| | Cooking | The Master Chef's Kitchen | ::cooking | | Crafting | Dommik's Crafting Store | ::crafting | | Fletching | Hickton's Fletching Supplies | ::fletching | | Herblore | The Apothecary | | | Hunter | Hunter Supplies | ::hunter | | Runecrafting | Aubury's Rune Shop | ::runecrafting | | Smithing | Horvik's Armour Shop | ::smithing | | Farming | Farming Supplies | | | Construction | Sawmill Supplies | ::house | | Agility | Graceful | ::graceful |

Woodcutting, Fishing, Firemaking and Thieving need nothing bought at all - the whole 1:1 Old School map is here, so every tree, fishing spot, range, furnace, anvil, altar, rooftop course and hunting ground in the game works where it stands.

Prayer and the altar

The chaos altar at home takes bones and pays three and a half times what burying them does. Every boss on the ladder pays a stack of noted bones on top of its drops, so the way to 99 Prayer is to keep bossing and un-note the pile at the bank on your way past.

The blood nodes

Three gathering skills have a second lane that pays a currency rather than a resource: [Woodcutting](/wiki/skill/woodcutting), [Mining](/wiki/skill/mining) and [Fishing](/wiki/skill/fishing) each have a blood tree, blood rocks and a blood shoal, and each resource exists in three places at three different risk levels.

| Where | Pays | |---|---| | At home, south of the ditch | x0.40 | | Shallow Wilderness | x1.00, and rolls the skill's token | | Deep Wilderness | x1.80, and rolls the skill's token |

Each of the three masters - the Blood lumberjack, the Blood prospector and the Blood angler - stands at the home site and runs a counter that spends the tokens. The four-piece outfit each one sells is +15% per piece and +40% more for the full set, so a full kit doubles the payout at every site. The three masters charge the same for the same shapes on purpose: nothing here is trying to tell you which of the three skills to train.

The deep sites are placed together, a few tiles apart, so the whole gathering lane shares one dangerous spot.

Away from the keyboard

The Rest Yard is ten stations that pay 86,400 experience an hour in whichever skill the station is, while you are not at the keyboard. It is the floor under every skill on this page.

What it earns you

  • [Capes of Accomplishment](/wiki/shop/capes-of-accomplishment) from Mac at home, one per 99, and the [Max cape](/wiki/item/max-cape) when the last one lands. Mac checks; there is no way to buy one you have not earned.
  • Three rows on the [task list](/wiki/guide/tasks) (::tasks, or ::sa) that count your 99s - your first, your fifth and all sixteen. They pay coins, blood money and the two skilling pets, and your levels count towards them whether or not you have ever opened the list.
  • Graceful, bought with the Marks of grace the rooftop courses drop.

Mining does not work

Said plainly because a wiki that hides it is worse than no wiki. The rock table this server inherited names object ids the imported map does not have, so no ordinary rock in the world can be mined. Blood rocks work, because they are our own; nothing else does. It is the one hole left in the twenty-three.
