Umbral vestments

The umbral items - the three-piece mage set Shadow General Umbra wears and drops, its set effect, the Umbral scimitar and the box they all come in.

The Umbral vestments are a magic set of three pieces: a hat, a mantle and a robe, black and violet, worn by Shadow General Umbra and dropped by nothing else. Each piece is a slightly better Ancestral piece on its own, and the full set adds an effect built around binding, freezing and Tele Block.

It works on monsters and on other players alike.

The three pieces

Umbral mantleBodyAncestral robe top, and 3% magic damage instead of 2%
Umbral robeLegsAncestral robe bottom, and 3% magic damage instead of 2%

Every other number is Ancestral's, and so are the requirements: 65 Defence and 75 Magic. The extra magic damage is part of each piece's own bonuses, so it shows on your equipment screen and it counts for everything that reads magic damage - spells, powered staves and magic special attacks - whether or not you wear the rest of the set.

The set effect

Wear all three pieces and you get three things at once. There is no partial set: two pieces give you their bonuses and nothing more.

EffectWhat it does
Shadowed bindingBind, Snare, Entangle, the four Ice spells and the three Grasp spells are 50% more accurate
Long nightA Tele Block you cast lasts 50% longer
Umbral surgeA further 3% magic damage on top of the pieces' own

Shadowed binding is the effect the set is built around. It makes the spells that hold a target in place land far more often, which matters most against something with a high Magic defence and most of all in player killing, where a freeze that lands is the fight.

Long night stretches a normal Tele Block from five minutes to seven and a half. Against a target praying Protect from Magic, the halved block of two and a half minutes becomes three minutes and forty-five seconds. The target's protection from being blocked again is counted from the end of the longer block.

Umbral surge adds to the same magic damage total as your gear, so in the full set the three pieces and the set together give 12% magic damage before your weapon and the rest of your gear.

The Set Bonus page on your equipment screen shows the effect once you are wearing all three.

The Umbral scimitar

Umbral scimitarWeapon

The scimitar shares the name and the colours, but it is a melee weapon and has nothing to do with the set effect. It carries the blood abyssal tentacle's bonuses, uses the dragon scimitar's special attack, and adds 2 to every melee max hit you roll with it. It needs 75 Attack.

It drops from Skotizo, the vote boss: one contributor, drawn at random, rolls for it once per kill.

Where to find them

Two places hold the vestments:

  • [Shadow General Umbra](/wiki/boss/shadow-general-umbra), the world boss that rises beside the Ancient Pyramid every six hours. Only one contributor, drawn at random from everybody who fought it, rolls for a piece, and you cannot choose which of the three it is. World bosses covers the fight.
  • The [Umbral mystery box](/wiki/item/umbral-mystery-box). Open it and you get one of the hat, the mantle, the robe or the Umbral scimitar. The box comes from the Halloween sale: a free box for every $300 in a single donation store order, and you pick an Umbral box or a Spectral box.

The pieces, the scimitar and the box are all tradeable, so any of them can also be bought from another player.
